Mercedes-Benz will launch the E63 AMG high performance sedan for the Indian market at a function in Delhi tomorrow. The car made its global debut on the 9th of January and while sharing a basic look with its saner sibling, the E63 AMG has sporty overtones and obviously a much more powerful engine than the standard 2014 E-Class.
The E63 gets AMG specific grille with aerodynamic modifications as well as a sportier front bumper. The rear-end is dominated with a black finished diffuser as well as twin chrome exhaust pipes on each side, black finished rear diffuser and an AMG exclusive dual exhaust setup. The inside gets special AMG touches like silver seatbelts and Alcantara inserts to the Nappa leather steering wheel among other finer details.
Where the E63 AMG differs from saner sibling is the power plant. The AMG badge is attached only to cars that achieve a certain level of lunacy when it comes to performance and the E63 is no less. It is powered by a 5.5-litre V8 that produces 557PS of power, up by 30PS from its predecessor. Torque stands at 700Nm and power is transmitted to all four-wheels via a seven speed automatic gearbox and a rear biased 4Matic AWD system.
The E63 AMG competes with the BMW M5 and the recently launched Audi RS5. We expect that Mercedes-Benz will price the car in the range Rs 1.2 to Rs 1.4 Crore (ex-showroom) and it will be brought into the country via the CBU route.
We are excited about the E63 AMG as it is one AMG spec vehicle currently not available in the Indian market. The E-Class has been the most successful model for the German automaker in India since it was launched in 1995 and we expect that for those who can afford an E63, it should be quite popular.
