Mercedes-Benz is working on a new C-Class model to slot in between the C400 and the upcoming range-topping C63 AMG. Though not a fully fledged AMG model, the C450 AMG Sport has been developed with inputs by the boffins from Affalterbach, Germany.
The car will serve as intermediary between the two models, catering to customers who want a bit more punch than the C400, but don’t want the high-horsepower C63 AMG. The C450 AMG Sport is expected to be identical to the 2015 C-Class design wise, with additional body kit and new wheels to set it apart from the ‘regular’ C-Class.
Under the bonnet, the car will be powered by Mercedes-Benz’s M276 petrol engine. The twin turbocharged V6 will be revised to churn out 367bhp, up from the 333bhp of the C400. The car will also get suspension and chassis tweaks to handle the extra power. While the C63 AMG will be offered only with rear-wheel-drive (RWD), the C450 will also get the option of a 4MATIC four-wheel-drive (4WD) system.
Right now, the options are limited for those looking for a performance sedan in the C-Class’s segment. You can opt either for an Audi S4 with its 328bhp and all-wheel drive at Rs 50 lakh or so (ex-showroom Delhi), or BMW’s 328i with 245bhp and rear-wheel drive for a substantial Rs 10 lakh less than the S4.
