Following the launch of the all-new 2014 S-Class, Mercedes-Benz confirmed its intentions to add three new variants to the S-Class platform. The coupe and convertible versions of the luxury model are already on the chart and the Extended Wheel Base version will be the next in line.
Codenamed the ‘X222’, the EWB variant is 34cm longer than the S-Class while flaunting a slightly different design philosophy and added features. The details of the new model are expected to be revealed during the 2014 Shanghai Auto Expo due in April, as China is one of the most important markets for the super luxury limousines.
The stretched out S-Class will offer more space for the rear row, aptly competing with the BMW 7 Series long-wheel-base, Audi A8L and Jaguar XJL. Mercedes is also planning a Pullman variant of the S-Class which will feature an additional opposite row of seats and feature a 100 cm extended, dubbed as the ‘VV222’.
