Mercedes-Benz will launch its SLK 55 AMG roadster for the Indian market at a function in Delhi tomorrow. The SLK55 AMG is part of the German automaker’s dream line of vehicles and is the third AMG spec for the Indian market in 2013 after the G63 AMG and the E63 AMG. The SLK (roughly translated into Sporty, light, short) range was introduced 18 years ago and was one of the modern first hardtop roadsters.
The SLK 55 AMG has all the character defining traits of the range but now looks more aggressive thanks to the AMG spec body kit and black AMG wheels. It gets LED DRLs, headlights, tail lamp and indicators. The two defining features on the car include the contrast coloured roof as well as the large rear skirt which has quad exhaust emerging from it.
Inside, the SLK 55 AMG shares many of its components with the smaller cars in the SLK range but thanks to the AMG pedigree Alacantra has been replaced by carbon fire as well as leather. Standard features on the SLK55 AMG include aluminium pedals, infotainment system and contrast stitching for the seats.
It also gets leather seats with rollover protection and the German automaker’s patented Airscarf neck level heating system. The hardtop roof can be had in three options - standard, with sunroof and the top-of-the-line version which has the company’s Magic Sky Control.
The SLK 55 AMG is powered by a 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 that produces 422bhp and 540Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via the AMG SpeedShift Plus 7G-TRONIC transmission which allows the roadster to go from 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 250 kmph.
We expect that Mercedes-Benz will price the SLK55AMG in the range of Rs 1.1 Crore to Rs 1.3 Crore and is being brought into the country via the CBU route.
