The Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG roadster has been launched in India for Rs 1, 25,90,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). It is a part of Mercedes-Benz’s dream line of cars and is the third AMG branded vehicle after the G63 SUV and E63 AMG performance sedan for the Indian market in 2013.
The SLK 55 AMG is the highest spec version in the roadster range. It has all the characteristic SLK traits, most prominent of which is the folding hardtop, a model defining feature. The car gets a contrast coloured roof, large mesh grille and air intake as well as LED DRLs and headlights.
On the side, the car has the familiar SLK (roughly translated into sporty light and small) design language but now with sportier lines and obviously huge AMG spec alloy wheels. The rear end is dominated by a large rear skirt and quad chrome exhaust tips that emerge out of the skirt. It also gets boot lid mounted LED stop lights as well as LED brake lights.
The SLK 55 AMG shares much of its components with the rest of the SLK Class in terms of overall design. However, this being an AMG spec car, it gets leather and carbon fibre in place of Alacantra and plastic. Standard features include an infotainment system, contrast stitching for the seats, Airscarf neck heating technology, rollover protection and Magic Sky control technology for the sunroof.
The SLK 55 AMG is powered by a 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine that produces 422bhp and 540Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via the AMG SpeedShift Plus 7G-TRONIC transmission which allows the roadster to go from 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 250 kmph. Given that this is an AMG spec car, it also gets torque vectoring brakes and the AMG direct-steer system.
