The SLK has been a great success for Mercedes-Benz. Introduced in 1996, the two-door convertible has managed sales of around 670,000 units globally. As a replacement, then, the new SLC has big shoes to fill. Yes, Mercedes has renamed the SLK as the SLC and this new model is now on sale in the UK with prices starting at £30,495 (Rs 29.72 lakh).
While the entry-level version called the SLC 200 Sport is powered by a 2-litre, turbo 4-cylinder engine with 184bhp, the top-spec SLC 43 which costs £46,355 (Rs 45.20 lakh) is powered by a 3-litre V6 engine with 367bhp.
The SLC made its global debut at the recently held Detroit Motor Show and is essentially a facelift for the old SLK despite the new model nomenclature. Interestingly, it is noticeably cheaper than the old SLK across the variant range which is always good for sales. The new SLC is expected to arrive in India later this year.
