Mercedes-Benz has sold 6659 units in the period January to June 2015 as compared to 4717 units in the corresponding period last year recording a growth of 41 per cent. This is an all-time high for the German automaker and is quite close to their total sales of 7138 units for 2012.
The major contributors to the growth were the SUV range whose sales grew by 100 per cent in the first six months of this year. The other significant contributor to the numbers was their range of sedans which grew by 40 per cent. Also adding to the numbers were the AMG branded vehicles.
The company has been on a major expansion and launch spree. In the case of the former it opened new outlets in Ghaziabad, Bengaluru and Jamshedpur while AMG performance centers were opened in Hyderabad and Pune. On the launch front, the company launched six new models and will add nine more by the end of the year.
However, the one of their significant milestones is that they have opened phase-2 of production at their plant in Chakan. The first vehicle to roll out of this facility is the GLA-Class crossover. We were present for the inauguration and opening of the plant and you can find a link to a photo feature in this regard listed below.
