An array of spy shots, an accidental leak and an official teaser later Mercedes-Benz has finally unveiled the S63 AMG. The car is set for its public debut in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will be available in Europe by the end of this year.
The high performance luxury sedan will replace the current 6.2-litre AMG engine with a new 5.5-litre V8 engine found on its younger sibling but in a higher state of tune. The performance figures are rated at 593PS power and 900Nm of torque. It works together with a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT sports transmission offering three modes: "C" (Controlled Efficiency), "S" (Sport) and "M" (Manual). The Affalterbach tuners are keen on transforming their portfolio to a full all-wheel-drive line up and so the S63 will offer a lighter and more performance-oriented setup of the 4Matic system along with the standard rear-wheel drive system. The rear-wheel drive S63 AMG features a stereo camera installed within the windscreen that can scan the road and alter suspension damping automatically.
The S63 AMG also has an optional feature that will allow the buyer to configure their S63 AMG with the AMG ceramic high-performance composite brakes with specially painted brake callipers featuring the AMG Carbon Ceramic logo. On the exterior, the car will flaunt bigger alloy wheels with the AMG badge and the V8 bi-turbo lettering, an S63 badge on the boot and quad-exhaust tips.
Though the current S63 AMG is not sold in India we can expect to see the S63 AMG soon after the launch of the new 2014 S-Class as part of the aggressive strategy by Mercedes-Benz in India. It is not sure yet as to which of the variants will come to the Indian market but there is no argument over the fact that it will come with a very hefty price tag.
