Recently, during the launch of the 2014 S-Class S500, Mercedes-Benz revealed that it has managed to sell out all 125 units of the luxury sedan, in the Indian market, within just 16 days of making the announcement.
Eberhard Kern, CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said that bookings for the diesel model, which we expect to be the S-Class S350CDI, will begin in April and will be launched most likely in June or July. However, we also expect that they will bring one more petrol variant to the Indian market and this, along with the S350CDI, will be locally assembled at their facility in Pune.
While speaking to a gathering of journalists on the sidelines of the launch, Kern said that 2013 had been a very successful for the German automaker. It achieved a growth of 32.5 per cent by selling 9,003 units. He hinted that they would bring a new vehicle to the Indian market at the upcoming Auto Expo and this is expected to be the CLA sedan which will be their Audi A3 competitor and is expected to have a sub-Rs 25 lakh price.
Kern also said that the 2015 C-Class which was unveiled recently will not be brought to India in 2014 as it will first be launched in most of the LHD markets before making its way to places like Australia, UK, Malaysia and then eventually India. Mercedes-Benz recently launched the C-Class C Edition to celebrate the sale of a million units of the vehicle globally.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class S500 was launched in India for Rs 1.57 crore (ex-showroom Delhi) at a function in Delhi. It is being brought to the country via the CBU route and as we had said earlier, all units of the launch edition have been sold out.
