Mercedes-Benz has launched the 2014 S-Class in the Chinese market for 1.24 Million Yuan (Rs 1.26 Crore). It is available only in the long wheelbase form (as is the case with every car in the People’s Republic) and in three variants; S400 L, S400 L hybrid and the S500 L. The top of the line S600L and AMG spec S63 L and S65 L will reach the Chinese market next year.
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class was unveiled globally at a function in Germany on May 16 (Link at bottom of story) and features a whole host of changes both inside, outside and is based on a new platform. It is being offered in China with three engines; a 3.0-litre V6, 3.5-litre V6b mated to a hybrid motor for the S400 L hybrid and a 4.7-litre V8 for the S500L. The feature list on the S-Class extensive and given how the Chinese have an affinity for the shiny and expensive things in life, Mercedes-Benz is unlikely to have spared an expense in this regard.
The Chinese launch of the 2014 S-Class means that it should be making its way to the Indian market by the end of the year. The German automaker is currently expanding and upgrading its facility outside Pune. It is likely that one of the steps is to ready the facility to assemble the new S-Class.
On a related note, Mercedes-Benz has also confirmed that it will build an S-Class convertible. It will be based on the production version of the S-Class Coupe and will be launched once the former is launched sometime in 2015.
