In a stroke of good fortune for us auto-enthusiasts, images of the facelifted Mercedes-Benz S-Class have been leaked ahead of its debut, slated for later this year. As expected, the car retains its silhouette and the popular design of its predecessor. But it also includes some necessary upgrades to usher the car into the modern age.
These pictures tell us that this 2018 S-Class gets new bumpers, headlamps and exhausts as a part of the design package. The package also includes new designs for the alloy wheels. We only got a brief glimpse of the cabin, but we can see that most of the elements are pretty much the same as the current model. However, sources suggest that the interactive elements in the centre console have been upgraded to the latest tech offered by the German automaker.
This S-Class will continue with the same range of engines as the current car except that the S550 has now been dubbed the S560 which we suspect has come about due to an increase in torque and output.
However, the biggest addition to this 2018 S-Class is expected to be a host of driving assistance systems including auto parking and autonomous driving systems. This was a move that was expected given the number of cameras and radar-based systems already present in the car when it was launched in 2013.
We got the current S-Class in India just six months after its global debut and it may be the same story this time around too with the 2018 S-Class. Since Mercedes-Benz already has the infrastructure in place to assemble the S-Class locally, we believe that they will introduce the car through the CKD route straightaway.
