The luxury world in late 2012 bid farewell to an iconic brand name when Mercedes-Benz, finding no success even after 10 years, ended production of the Maybach line of cars. Its plan is to base a whole range of vehicles on the 2014 S-Class including an extra-long wheelbase version which it has now confirmed will revive the famous moniker. The car will be unveiled at the 2015 LA Auto Show and is expected to go on sale soon after.
The car will mimic the LWB S-Class (sold in India) mechanically and design wise but is expected to have a total length of the 5.5-metres and a 3.4-metre wheelbase as compared to the LWBs models 5.24 metres length and 3.1-metre wheelbase.
Given that the S-Class is already special and large, we expect that this car will pack in more rear goodies including a soundproof partition to separate the front and rear. It is also possible that Mercedes-Benz may offer optional rear facing seats for those who like to do business on the move. While this may seem cramped, you should consider the fact that the entire wheelbase in this new car is equivalent to the whole length of a small hatchback!
While this may by itself be great news for fans of the Stuttgart-based manufacturer, it gets even better as Mercedes-Benz has also said that it will launch the Maybach moniker as a sub-brand under the its wing. This means we can expect a variety of vehicles across various shapes and sizes to carry this branding into the future.
Given how MB is going aggressive with its plans in India, we expect that they may just offer this model as a CBU and with diesel power for the Indian market sometime next year.
