Mercedes-Benz unveiled the S-Class coupe concept at the Detroit Motor Show last week and the production model will soon prowl the streets this year. The S-Class coupe is likely to replace the CL-Class which has been in the market for more than two decades now.
Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche said, “The replacement for the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class will launch later this year.” He also confirmed the CL would be renamed the S-Class coupe. The S-Class coupe will get the 4.7-litre, 449bhp V8 engine that’s found in the S-Class sedan and might also get a twin turbo V12.
The S-Class coupe will compete against its main rival the Bentley Continental GT when it reaches the showrooms in Europe this year.Plug-in hybrid technology will also come to the new C-Class for the first time with the unveil of the C300 plug-in hybrid model later this year, Zetsche added.
