The Mercedes-Benz S-Class cabriolet has been spotted on test with minimal camouflage. It carries the same lines as the S-Class coupe but gets a fabric roof as a part of the design makeover for this body style.
Reports suggest that the S-Class cabriolet would have been better suited to a folding hardtop but this would have added a significant amount to the weight of the already heavy S-Class body structure. They further suggest that the folding roof while being visually appealing and providing the required NVH insulation would have also included the folding mechanism which would have eaten into the boot space. Given Mercedes’ ability to provide top quality fit and finish, we believe that the cabin will still be very quiet and comfortable despite the fabric roof.
To recap, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class cabriolet is expected to get the same cabin and feature list as the S-Class Coupe. It will most likely be offered in the S500 version as well as the high performance S63 AMG specification. It will definitely be offered for the Indian market and is likely to make its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo.
