Mercedes-Benz is developing an open-top version of the S-Class Coupe and this convertible car was spied testing recently. The S-Class Cabriolet inherits most of the styling cues from the coupe model and is expected to launch by the end of this year.
The S-Class Cabriolet will be the latest member from the Stuttgart-based carmaker's line-up and borrows the platform, technology and powertrains from the S-Class coupe. It will feature most of the elements from the coupe, like the crystal-infused LED headlamps and daytime running lights which together create a clear beam. There might also be the Magic Body Control suspension system, which scans the road ahead and leans the car into bends to compensate for body roll. To save weight, the automaker will incorporate a fabric top for the flagship drop-top.
The engine specs for the luxury drop-top S500 will be a 4.7-litre bi-turbo V8 mill that churns out 449bhp of power. There might also be an AMG-tuned version, one S63 developing 576bhp of power and another S65, outputting 630bhp of power.
With the introduction of this new convertible, we will have one more form of the new S-Class. Mercedes-Benz at present has the saloon, the coupe and has also introduced the extended-wheelbase Maybach S 600 and the mammoth Pullman luxury limousine. This cabriolet version of the S-Class will go up against the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante, Bentley Continental GTC and Maserati GranTurismo Convertible.
