Mercedes-Benz has come storming back at the end of this year by introducing the convertible versions of the S-Class and the C-Class. The former costs Rs 2.25 crore and the latter Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The topless beauties carry a hefty price tag and might be far from the reach of many, but they are still loved for their body style. Take a look at these pictures that aptly highlight their features.
The more expensive model is the S-Class Cabriolet based on the S-Class Coupe. It is the flagship's first convertible in over 40 years as the first one was sold between 1961 and 1971.
Coming straight to the feature that makes the S500 convertible stand out amongst the standard S-Class, is the soft top. This fabric roof opens/closes in 20 seconds, even at speeds of up to 60kmph.
The S-Class Cabriolet gets the same luxurious cabin like the S-Class Coupe. The THERMOTRONIC intelligent climate control system is a new feature to take care of the passengers’ comfort.
Under the hood of the convertible, is a 4.7-litre V8 biturbo engine rated at 443bhp of max power and 700Nm of torque. It comes mated to a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission unit.
Sure the long sedan is a luxury vehicle, but that does not mean it isn't fast. It can do the 0-100kmph sprint in just 4.6 seconds and hit a maximum speed of 250kmph.
Now for the C300 cabriolet, the styling cues are borrowed from the sedan sibling, but of course with a few changes. It misses the rear two doors and gets a different front and rear end.
As far as the fabric roof of the C300 convertible is concerned, this one too folds down in 20 seconds at speeds of up to 50kmph.
In line with Mercedes' personalisation schemes, the C300 Cabriolet too will get a host of customisation options and optional equipment like the S500 Cabriolet.
It sports a 2.0-litre four-cylinder mill which is turbocharged and pumps out max power of 241bhp along with a peak torque of 370Nm. This powerplant is mated to a nine-speed 9G-Tronic gearbox.
The C300 Cabriolet becomes the smallest convertible on sale from Mercedes. But do not assume it to be small or slow as it can hit a top speed of 250kmph and accelerate from 0-100kmph in 6.4 seconds.
