Mercedes-Benz is not stepping down in terms of displacement. Their flagship convertible will have a massive 6.0-litre bi-turbo V12, in a day and age when even supercar manufacturers are lowering their engine displacement. This massive German ‘yacht’ will rival the new English ‘yacht’ Rolls-Royce Dawn internationally.
The S65 Convertible will get a fully retractable soft top available in black, dark blue, beige and dark red. The roof will be operational up to 50kmph, and the entire process will take 20 seconds. The interior will be layered in Designo nappa leather and the car will also feature the AMG instrument cluster on the 31.2cm TFT display.
Like the S-Class saloon and coupe, the new convertible will be available with numerous new assistance systems like Pre-Safe Brake with pedestrian detection, Distronic Plus with Steering Assist and Stop and Go Pilot, Brake Assist Bas Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive High-beam Assist Plus and Night View Assist Plus.
Coming to the AMG side of things, the hand built 6.0-litre, bi-turbo V12 will put down 621bhp between 4,800 and 5,400rpm and 1,000Nm of torque between 2,300 and 4,300rpm. The 0 to 100kmph time comes up in a claimed 4.1 seconds with the top speed rated at an electronically limited 250kmph. The AMG Driver's package will raise the top speed to 300kmph. The car will use the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic gearbox. It will also have an Eco mode with a Start-Stop function.
The car will be displayed at the Detroit Auto Show. Mercedes-Benz have also announced they will begin deliveries from April 2016. Since Mercedes-Benz offer the S65 coupe in India, we can expect them to launch the Convertible alongside it, by the end of 2016.
