Mercedes-Benz has previewed its BMW X6 rivalling Concept Coupe SUV ahead of the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. Rumoured to be called the MLC, it follows exactly the same idea as the X6-sporty proportions with coupe styling but on a raised platform with pseudo off-roading credentials.
There are no details regarding the sports coupe but from the pictures we can see that it gets the familiar three-pointed star fascia with an aggressive yet minimalistic design for the front grille. The roof line slopes towards the back in a coupe-like manner and appears to have a more cohesive design than the X6.
We have no information on the engine and underpinnings but we believe that there will be a variety of petrol and diesel units with at least one variant getting the twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 petrol engine. Transmission options are expected to include the seven-speed DCT as well as a four-wheel drive option.
Mercedes-Benz holds a reputation for making large, luxurious and fast vehicles in various body styles such as the traditional ones like coupes, sedans and SUVs but nothing in the crossover segment until the GLK and the GLA came along. This vehicle, the MLC (if it is called that) will be the third car in the line-up to adapt this body style.
