Mercedes-Benz has reclaimed the top spot on the success podium among the list of luxury manufacturers globally. It has taken the crown away from BMW who had held this position for a long time. Success for the automaker from Stuttgart has come through expansion of model range and appealing to a younger group of buyers. The expansion of the model range has resulted in Mercedes-Benz winning the SUV race by introducing a high riding model in every segment that it is present in. Among its wide range of SUVs, Mercedes has seen success with the GLA crossover as well as the GLC crossover. The former is attached with the MFA underpinned models while the latter is the SUV in the C-Class range and can be had in sport SUV as well as regular SUV style. Its major success has also come from appealing to younger buyers with the MFA underpinned models like the A-Class, B-Class, CLA and the GLA crossover. In its traditional lineup the S-Class has been a massive success in terms of numbers and now the C-Class and E-Class both look like the S-Class giving us an idea of just how good the model has been. Mercedes has taken another major step with its EQ sub brand which will be responsible for electric vehicles as well as hybrids. This quick move to enter the sphere is expected to have a positive impact in the future. It has been a similar story in India where the automaker is now the leading luxury manufacturer. It has expanded its range with both SUVs as well as mid-level performance variants like the C43AMG which sport the Affalterbach badge but at affordable price. The full availability of the MFA range has brought in younger buyer groups to company’s buying fold. In its traditional range, the automaker will bring in the new E-Class post GST and this is expected to be a major volumes maker for them.
