Owners of certain Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan and estate models will need to make a trip to the dealership soon as the German carmaker has announced a worldwide recall pertaining to the vehicle’s steering mechanism.
While around 10,500 examples have been recalled in the US, over 8,145 vehicles are said to be affected in the UK. The crux of the recall is an issue with the steering mechanism, especially the steering column coupling lock which may not have been installed correctly during the production. This defect would result in an apparent noise coming from the steering system; however, in extreme circumstances the vehicle’s steering control could be affected.
Mercedes, reportedly, has taken precautionary measures and is notifying customers, who will need to check in with their cars to the dealership for a free check-up. The brand already has recalled 28,000 units of the C-Class in Germany, 10,500 in the US and around 8,100 in the UK. It is to be noted that it’s the latest-generation C-Class which has fallen prey to the recall. The C-Class users here in India needn’t worry because Mercedes-Benz India is yet to launch the 2015 model. The vehicle is expected to go on sale sometime next year and one can be sure that the C-Class sold to us then, will be free of the steering issue which has plagued the existing models.
