Mercedes Benz inaugurated its first dealership in Lucknow, making it the first luxury auto maker to open a showroom in Uttar Pradesh. Speaking on the occasion, Debashis Mitra, director of sales and marketing, said that two to three years ago, Mumbai and Delhi accounted for 70 per cent of the company’s sales, but now that number had reduced to 50 per cent. The rest is coming from the tier 2 cities.
He said the company was already selling a huge number of cars in Lucknow and nearby cities. A dealership in the region will help Mercedes Benz expand its network and also allow them to provide services to the customer more easily.
Mercedes Benz joins other luxury car makers like BMW and Audi in opening showrooms at tier 2 cities like Indore and Karnal where the demand for luxury cars has increased many fold. With regard to sales, Neeraj Agarwal , MD SRM Smart Hoops, the company that will lrun the showroom in partnership with Mercedes, said that they hoped to sell 50 cars by the end of the fiscal year. They hoped to double that number next year, he added.
