The Mercedes-Benz Maybach S400 and S600 have been launched for the Chinese market . The car was first unveiled for the US market last month during the LA Motor Show and China is the first market to receive this range of cars.
The Maybach moniker was revived last year with the company announcing a three car range that would be launched this year. The cars look like the 2014 S-Class both internally and externally but have added length and consequently an extended wheelbase. The Peoples Republic gets the Maybach in two versions – the S400 4MATIC and the top-of-the-Maybach range S600 version . The former has been designed specifically for the Chinese market.
The S400 is powered by a 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol producing 333bhp/480Nm while the S600 gets a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 producing 530bhp/830Nm. Both the engines are mated to a seven-speed AT.
The cars have been priced at 1.43 million Yuan (Rs 14.1 Crore) for the S400 and 2.88 million (Rs 28 Crore) Yuan for the S600 version. We in India are expected to get the S500 version later this year and it will be priced higher than the standard S500.
