Mercedes-Benz may launch the A-Class hatchback for the Indian market in May. The German automaker is expected to launch A180 automatic model of the A-Class range and as we had mentioned before, it will be available in both petrol and diesel variants.
The third generation A-Class was unveiled globally last year and has been a strong seller for the German automaker. Currently Mercedes-Benz has over 90, 000 bookings for the hatchback and is running three shifts a day at its Rastatt plant to meet the demand.
The Mercedes-Benz A –Class A180 is available with two diesel engines and one petrol mill. The oil burners includes a 1.5-litre mill producing 109bhp+260Nm of torque and a 1.8-litre mill with the same output but has been mated to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. The petrol mill is a 1.6-litre turbocharged unit producing 122bhp and 200Nm of torque.
It is based on Mercedes-Benz’s MFA front-wheel drive architecture and is a part of a five car Sub Rs 25 lakh range that the German automaker will launch for the Indian market by 2015. The first car in this range was the B-Class petrol that was unveiled in October last year. We expect that Mercedes-Benz will price the car in the range of Rs 17 lakh to Rs 19 lakh.
