Mercedes Benz has unveiled the ML 500 Guard at the Auto Expo 2014 for the who’s who of the Indian subcontinent. The armoured SUV will be brought in to India via the CBU route and will be offered at a hefty price tag of Rs 2.49cr owing to the steep custom duties.
The M-Guard will be available with the Mercedes 4.6-litre engine which produces 408bhp with 600Nm of torque. The car will be imported on order and is built to protective requirements of resistance level VR4 which covers handguns up to the 0.44 Magnum. In spite of the increased weight caused by its armour, the M-Guard achieves the impressive ride, comfort and great agility. It also features as standard an AIRMATIC air suspension system with Adaptive Damper System.
The M-Guard will come with a load of other safety features except the Distronic due to the unavailability of radio wave spectrum that is reserved by the security agencies in India. The car gets 7G-Tronic transmission. Mercedes may also offer the ML500 later this year owing to the runaway success of the S500 and rising demand for luxury SUVs.
Mercedes-Benz is hoping to sell good numbers of the M-Guard with the rising number of millionaire businessmen and the innumerable politicians in India.
