Mercedes-Benz has just launched the E 220 d in India at Rs 57.14 lakh (ex-showroom Pune), and it joins the ranks of the current E-Class line-up (E 200 and E 350 d). While the E 220 d gets an in-line 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel mill that generates 194bhp and 400Nm of torque, transmission duties are to be fulfilled by a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
With the lower price tag of the E 220 d (E 350 d costs Rs 70.15 lakh), Mercedes-Benz hopes to cater to those buyers who long to buy a more affordable diesel version of the new E-Class.
The car is available in the same trim as the E200, so one can expect five-spoke alloys, an illuminated rear door sill, memory function for rear seats, regular suspension, reverse camera, and the standard music system. Compare these to what’s available on the E350d’s list, which includes 10-spoke alloys, illuminated front and rear door sills, memory function for front and rear seats, air suspension, 360-degree camera, and a Burmester surround sound system with nine-channel digital signal processor amplifier.
