Mercedes-Benz launches S-Class Connoisseur’s Edition at Rs 1.21 crore

Mercedes-Benz has launched a special version of the S-Class called the Connoisseur’s Edition and has priced it at Rs 1.21 crore (ex-showroom Pune) for the S350d variant and Rs 1.32 crore for the S400 variant.

The Connoisseur’s Edition focuses on the needs of the chauffeur-driven customers of the S-Class. It offers an executive rear seat package that includes a comfortable recliner that can tilt up to 43 degrees, additional thigh support and an electrically extending footrest. The German automaker has also included its Air-Balance perfume package with air ionisation and a cushion airbag as part of the package. A cushion bag deploys from under the seat in the event of an accident and prevents a reclining occupant from sliding forward.

Apart from the rear-seat package, these special editions now also get the Stuttgart-based automaker’s Night View Assist Plus technology. Here, a combination of infrared headlamps, infrared camera behind the windscreen and a thermal imaging camera in the radiator work together to provide enhanced imaging in the night and improve driver experience.

The S 350d is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel producing 258bhp/620Nm of torque while the S400 is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 petrol producing 333bhp/480Nm. Both engines make use of a seven-speed AT.

The S-Class Connoisseur’s Edition comes at a time when two of the flagship sedan’s main rivals (BMW 7 Series, Jaguar XJ L) have entered a new generation. The S-Class facelift will arrive later this year and this special edition appears to be a step forward by the German automaker to keep up with the competition.
