After making an entry in the US market earlier this year, the new Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive has arrived in its local market, Germany. The all-electric luxury MPV is now on sale with prices starting at 39,151 euros (Rs 29.91 lakh).
You might imagine that the B-Class Electric Drive compromises slightly on space compared to the standard B-Class, but that isn’t the case here. According to Mercedes, this new model offers up similar levels of space because of the placement of the lithium-ion battery which is placed under the floor.
Quiet and emission-free drive power is courtesy an electric motor developing well over 150bhp of power. Typically for an electric vehicle, the maximum torque of 310Nm is available right from the low revs. The 0-100kmph sprint time, as a result, stands at an impressive 7.9 seconds.
Mercedes claims that the B-Class Electric Drive can cover up to 200 kilometres on a full charge. The drive range can be further extended by 30 kilometres thanks to the optional Range Plus pack. Currently, Mercedes-Benz India has no plans to introduce this all-electric version of the B-Class. It is, instead, concentrating on the facelifted version of the standard B-Class which is due for launch soon.
