Mercedes-Benz India launched the highly improved new C-Class late last year although only in petrol-powered guise. In a bid to strengthen this new model’s position in the executive sedan space, the brand is now expected to launch the C220 CDI diesel next month.
According to a few reports, the C220 CDI will be launched in India on February 22. The vehicle will join the fully imported petrol-powered model. Mercedes has assured that local assembly of both petrol and diesel models will commence later during the year.
Powering the C220 CDI will be the familiar 2.2-litre diesel engine that is seen in a variety of Mercedes models here in India. For the new C-Class, this four-cylinder unit will be tuned to produce close to 170bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. As expected, it will be mated to Merc’s 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic gearbox.
While the new petrol powered C-Class carries a price tag of Rs 40.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the C220 CDI diesel is expected to be priced a bit higher owing to the rise in excise duties. The C-Class diesel model is one of Mercedes-Benz India’s upcoming launches for 2015 which spans across 15 new models.
