Mercedes-Benz is all set to introduce the AMG version of the CLA sedan in the Indian market. The CLA 45 AMG will be launched tomorrow at an event in Delhi and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 60 lakh to Rs 65 lakh making it the most affordable AMG car in India.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG is based on the outgoing CLA sedan. This performance car gets an AMG body kit that includes a sporty front bumper, side skirts and a rear bumper integrated with a diffuser with quad chrome-tipped exhausts. The vehicle is underpinned by the same Modular Front Architecture (MFA) platform which is seen in the A- and B-Class hatchbacks. Inside the cabin, the car gets all the standard equipment from the CLA but the AMG badging with AMG specific seats and red seat belts differentiates it from the standard CLA.
Under the hood of the CLA 45 AMG is the world's most powerful four-cylinder engine, that is, a 2.0-litre direct injection turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 355bhp and 450Nm of torque. This mill comes mated to the DCT 7-speed sport transmission similar to the one used in the SLS AMG, unlike the 7G-Tronic gearbox used in other cars. The power is sent to all the wheels through a 4MATIC system. The vehicle can do the 0kmph to 100kmph sprint in 4.3 seconds and is electronically limited to a top speed of 250kmph.
When launched tomorrow via the CBU route, the CLA 45 AMG will then join the automaker's AMG portfolio that includes the C 63 AMG, the G 63 AMG, the GL 63 AMG, the ML 63 AMG, the E 63 AMG and the SLK 55 AMG. This performance car will go up against the two-door sports cars like the BMW Z4, Porsche Boxster and the Audi TT.
