Come tomorrow and Mercedes-Benz India will update its range of special protection models with the new S600 Guard, based on the new S-Class. The carmaker currently sells armoured vehicles based on the E-Class and the M-Class in the Indian market.
The S600 Guard provides all-round protection to the level of resistance class VR9 (both in transparent and non-transparent areas). According to Mercedes, protective components of special steel are integrated into the cavities between the body structure and the outer skin.
Meanwhile, the glass areas are coated with polycarbonate on the inside for splinter protection, and have impressive visual characteristics thanks to their laminated structure.
The S600 Guard features a 6-litre V12 engine putting out 530bhp of power and 830Nm of torque. It is mated to the 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. For weight reasons the top speed is electronically limited to 210 kmph. Mercedes has even beefed-up the braking and suspension setup to cope with the additional weight.
With the launch of the S600 Guard, Mercedes-Benz India will have a total of three models comprising the armoured range of vehicles to help protect high-profile customers from violent criminal acts including gunfire and explosives.
