Mercedes-Benz India has just announced that it has updated the CLS 350 for 2014 and has given it an introductory price of Rs 89.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Widely considered as one of Mercedes’ most striking looking models, the CLS 350 is sold in the Indian market as a fully imported model. With the arrival of the 2014 edition, the CLS is likely to reinforce its presence in the luxury market as a sporty four-door luxury sedan.
The 2014 CLS 350 gets a new diamond silver colour, which Mercedes says, combines luminous design with exclusivity and sportiness. The four-door model also gets new 18-inch alloy wheels with a 15 spoke design. The rest of the design remains pretty much the same, meaning the new CLS retains its coupe-like silhouette – something that has mainly defined the car since its inception.
Inside, the long list of features includes a 3D display for instrument cluster; a multi-function steering wheel, ambient lighting, and a high-end Harman Kardon surround sound system custom-tuned for the interior of the CLS 350.
Under the hood, the 2014 CLS 350 gets a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine delivering 306bhp and 370Nm of torque. Mercedes says the car accelerates from zero to 100kmph in 6.1 seconds, with the top speed electronically limited to 250 kmph. The vehicle comes equipped with AIRMATIC suspension which allows the driver to alter the vehicle's ride and handling characteristics. The system also features ride height control that enables increased ground clearance, on rough roads or difficult upward slopes as well.
The introductory price of Rs 89.9 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi) seems quite irresistible given that the outgoing model costs over 1.2 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). The vehicle mainly competes with the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe which is also sold in the Indian market.
