Mercedes-Benz has launched the new GLS at Rs 80.40 lakh (ex-showroom Pune). The GLS will be replacing the existing GL- Class. Popularly known as the S-Class of SUVs, the Mercedes-Benz GLS is part of the company’s plans to launch 12 new products in India this year. This is MB's fourth launch for 2016.
The Mercedes-Benz GLS comes loaded with a fresh set of cosmetic and feature upgrades. Under the hood, the SUV gets a 3.0-litre V6 bi-turbo diesel engine tuned to put out 255bhp of power and 620Nm of torque. There is also the GLS550 4MATIC which will generate 449bhp of power. All the engine options come mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
In the front, the new Mercedes-Benz GLS sports a revised grille that complements the tweaked headlamps. The redesigned bumpers give this SUV a muscular appeal. The taillights have also been revised for freshness. As for the insides, the new GLS gets premium upholstery with high-grade Nappa leather and a wood finished dashboard panel with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment display and a touch pad. The panoramic sunroof and 360 view cameras are also part of the features list.
With due importance to safety, the Mercedes-Benz GLS comes with safety features like re-safe system, brake assist, electronic all-wheel drive traction system 4ETS, ESP, and cruise control. The GLS competes with the recently launched Audi Q7 and the Volvo XC90 in India.
