From the recent pics of the next-gen GLE that was caught testing, it sure looks like Mercedes-Benz is shaping up an all-new design for the 2017 model.
Unlike the earlier shots, these pictures clearly depict the GLE’s new profile inspite of being draped in heavy camouflage. This upcoming SUV is believed to be internally codenamed “W167”, and continues to borrow a few design cures from the existing model (W166). While it appears to be decidedly smaller and curvier than the current version, the prominent bonnet lines and wheel arches point to an aggressive stance.
Expect the next-gen GLE to sport engines from the E-Class stable, and that includes two versions of the six-cylinder twin-turbo engine, a high performance V8, and a plug-in hybrid as well. All these applications should be available with an all-wheel drive and a nine-speed auto gearbox. The GLE is basically a remodelled and rebadged version of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class. With the competition from other players heating up in the segment, the next GLE is slated to get a huge makeover. So it’s certainly going to be bigger on the inside and whole lot more luxurious.
