Mercedes-Benz will launch the GLE 450 AMG Coupe in India tomorrow. Based on the standard GLE SUV, this version has coupe lines and is set to rival the BMW X6.
Unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in 2015, the GLE Coupe has very contemporary design based on the new Mercedes design philosophy. The model is basically a cross between an SUV and a coupe. The front is similar to many of the modern Mercs with bold creases on the bonnet, split grille and bright arc-shaped DRLs. With the AMG badging, the car gets the performance body kit including aggressive looking front bumper with an air intake, side skirts and a rear bumper with quad exhaust.
The version in India will get the 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine tuned to pump 362bhp and 516Nm of torque. The GLE coupe, with this set up, can get to 100kmph in 5.6 seconds with power delivered by the nine-speed dual-clutch transmission to the AWD system.
The new SUV will be imported to India as a CBU, at least in the initial phase. The price of the GLE 450 AMG coupe is expected to be around Rs 1.2 crore with an option for further cosmetic upgrades.
