The Mercedes-Benz GLC coupe was spied recently with minimal camouflage. The Stuttgart-based carmaker has not completely revealed the car yet; it is still undergoing some tests before its official unveiling.
The GLC coupe is a fastback, coupe-inspired crossover based on the GLC. It is designed with a target audience in mind who want the style of a coupe, but a raised ride height, a bigger boot and the four-wheel-drive system from the larger SUVs. The external appearance is similar to the concept shown at the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show. The GLC coupe will be underpinned by the four-wheel drive architecture and an optional air suspension.
The stylish looks of the GLC coupe are thanks to the sloping roofline. This swoopy bodystyle differentiates the coupe from the regular GLC crossover. However, this raked out roof will also mean less headroom in the cabin of the car. Nevertheless, the interior will be similar to the GLC sibling and come equipped with similar equipment and features.
The powertrain options for the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe are expected to include a variety of four-cylinder turbo diesel and petrol engines. This might include a 2.0-litre petrol unit producing 241bhp of power and come mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. We can expect a 3.0-litre V6 bi-turbo mill for the GLC 450 AMG Coupe. The carmaker might also offer a plug-in hybrid variant to complete the line-up.
Now that the GLC crossover is already on sale in the global markets, we can expect Mercedes-Benz to introduce the GLC Coupe this year. Also, knowing Mercedes-Benz India is going to launch the GLC for the Indian market soon, it wouldn't be a surprise if the carmaker plans to launch this coupe variant in India as well next year.
