While Mercedes-Benz is hard at work readying the new GLC for the world, Auto Blog has spotted the AMG-developed version on the roads around Germany’s fearsome Nurburgring. Coming back to the standard model, Mercedes-Benz is set to replace its ageing GLK crossover with this new model which is based on the latest-generation C-Class.
The spy shots reveal a lowered and sportier suspension set up with upgraded wheels and tyres for better cornering abilities. Not much is known about the power-plant although this AMG version is bound to be powered by the same 4-litre, twin-turbo V8 as the Mercedes-AMG GT and the C63 sedan. In the GT and the C63, this engine develops 456bhp and 503bhp of power respectively. Irrespective of the power tune, the GLC 63 is likely to be more than a match for other high-performance mid-size crossovers including the Audi SQ5 and the Porsche Macan Turbo.
While this AMG-developed version is mighty exciting, what we are really looking forward to see here in the Indian market is the standard GLC range. Like the smaller GLA, this new crossover range could also prove to be a big seller in a segment which is currently full of Audi Q5s and BMW X3s.
