Mercedes-Benz has announced their plans of producing the GLA-Class in China by the end of 2015. Currently, the vehicle is not available in the country and the imports will begin in the latter half of 2014.
The crossover will be available in the Chinese market with a couple of engine options. It will be powered by a 1.6-litre turbo engine with a power output of 122bhp or 156bhp. Another 2.0-litre turbo motor that churns out 211bhp of power will also go on sale.
The Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class will be shipped to China from Germany until local production starts in the country. The company has collaborated with their Chinese distributor and the Beijing-Benz joint venture will produce the crossover. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class L, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class L and the Mercedes-Benz GLK are presently being manufactured under this joint venture.
The production version of the crossover was unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo in February. The German carmaker surprised people in India as we were expecting a concept version to be displayed at the biennial event. The GLA shares its platform with the A-Class and the B-Class. It will go up against the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3 when it is launched.
