Mercedes-Benz USA has officially announced the pricing details for the GLA – the brand’s newest crossover model. Set to go on sale in the US starting this September, the GLA will be available in petrol engine variants with prices starting at $32,225 (Rs 19.48 lakh) for the entry-level model.
The GLA is based on the same platform that hat has given us cars like the A-Class, the B-Class and the CLA. The entire GLA range is powered by turbocharged four cylinder engines. The base-spec GLA 250 variants get a 2-litre, four cylinder petrol engine putting out 210bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox comes as standard across the range.
Besides the all-wheel drive GLA240 4Matic which starts at $34,225 (Rs 20.69 lakh), there’s also the high-performance GLA 45 AMG which costs $49,225 (Rs 29.77 lakh). The latter contains 355bhp of power and as a result, can hit 100kmph from standstill in just 4.8 seconds. Top speed, meanwhile, is electronically limited to 250kmph.
The GLA’s competition in the US includes the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3. While both BMW India and Audi India have been selling the X1 and the Q3 for quite some time now, Mercedes-Benz India is yet to launch the GLA here. The company, however, is already running tests and the vehicle is undergoing the homologation process, meaning it will not be too long before the GLA arrives here and gives both the X1 and the Q3 a run for their money.
