Mercedes-Benz will introduce a range of five vehicles in the Indian market based on its versatile MFA front-wheel drive platform. The B-Class is the first vehicle in this range and it was launched here in September. This will be followed by the A-Class which will have a sub-Rs 20 lakh price tag and will be launched next year. Now, the teams at worldcarfans have spotted another vehicle from the range, the GLA compact SUV, testing in full camouflage.
The GLA that was spotted has many of the German automaker’s newer design cues like the prominent grille, large hood, flowing headlights and increased ground clearance. At the back, the large bumper has been complemented by a rear spoiler with a high mounted stop light. The compact SUV has also been given black roof rails which we are sure will become body coloured when the car is launched.
The GLA is a five-seater and will be powered by a 1.6-litre four cylinder petrol engine producing 121bhp and 200Nm of torque. This is the same engine that powers the A-Class and the B-Class. The report also suggests that Mercedes might offer the compact SUV with an AMG tuned 2.0-litre engine producing 335bhp. While this unlikely to come to our shores anytime soon, we can expect a diesel variant being powered by a slightly more powerful engine with a higher level of torque. Mercedes-Benz will be banking on these vehicles to revive its sales and help it reclaim its position as market leader.
