The Mercedes-Benz GLA crossover has been launched in the Chinese market for 2,89,000 Yuan. It is an important vehicle for the German manufacturer in the Chinese market as it gives them access to the rapidly expanding crossover segment. The car is being imported into China at present but local production will begin at the Beijing-Benz plant in mid-2015.
The China spec GLA is very similar to the car being offered in India but has some additional features for the interior and obviously is only being sold with petrol engines. It is being offered in two variants - the GLA200 and the GLA260 4MATIC. The former is powered by a 1.6-litre four-pot petrol motor that produces 156bhp and 250Nm while the latter is a 2.0-litre motor that produces 211bhp and 350Nm of torque. Both engines have been mated to the seven-speed DCT and as the name suggests the GLA260 gets the AWD system.
The Mercedes-Benz China website also shows that the GLA45 AMG is on offer. It is the same vehicle that was launched in India recently. China is expected to be one of the largest markets for the GLA and it seems that its local production from mid next year will help the German automaker achieve its numbers.
