The Mercedes G-Wagon has donned many avatars but one of our favourites has been the 4x4-2(read squared). There is nothing in the current car market across the globe that comes anywhere close to it. The last in this league was the Land Rover Defender and now even the G-Wagon has reached the end of the road.
The 4x4-2 badge symbolises off-road equipment that goes to the next level. Raised suspension, bolstered off-roading gear and the large 22” off-road tyres make the car tower over everything. It is powered by the 4.0-litre biturbo V8 petrol engine, the one that also powers the AMG GT, developing 422bhp of power. The portal axles, three diff-locks and a permanent four-wheel drive have all been borrowed from its bigger brother, the G63AMG 6x6, except for the extra rear axle.
Also being a Mercedes, it is luxurious and loaded with equipment to its gills. From the seat bolsters and head restraints to the dashboard, centre console and armrests on the doors, everything is covered in black designo leather with white contrasting topstitching. The seat surfaces and door panels are wrapped in microfibre and impress with their attractive diamond-design quilting. Dual-zone climate control, electric seats and mirrors, cruise control, display screen for infotainment system etc are all standard on this luxury off-roader.
So, if you have always been wanting one and deferring your buying decision till now, get up and book one immediately. Because, looking at the way things are shaping up, we might not get anything like this in the future!
