The latest generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class has won 2017 world car of the year. This is the third award for the German automaker as it won award for the S-Class sedan in 2014 and S-Class Coupe in 2016. The E-Class has taken top honours ahead of the BMW 5 Series and the Volvo S90 both of which are direct rivals. This is the second award for the E-Class in the last ten years as the 2007 E320 BlueTec won the same award a decade ago.
The current generation E-Class (codenamed W213) was launched last year and this is the fifth generation for the sedan since the moniker was launched in 1993. This current E-Class has taken its design cues and technological updates from the flagship S-Class sedan.
This generation of the E-Class was launched in India last month and for the first time, it is being offered as a long wheelbase model. It is sold here in the E350d and E200 guise with a mid-level E250d expected to be launched later in the year.
