Mercedes-Benz India will launch the E-Class Edition E to celebrate the success of the new E-Class in the Indian market. It will also commemorate their completion of 20 years in our country.
The new variant will be based on the MY16 variant of the E-Class, which was launched back in June 2015 in India. The Edition E isn’t the new generation E-Class that made its global debut at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show this year. The Edition E trim is similar to the E-Class currently sold in the Indian market and gets some cosmetic changes and added features.
The changes to the exterior might include an illuminated three-pointed star on the front grille, 18-inch alloy wheels, larger front discs, Mercedes-Benz lettering on the brake calipers, Edition E emblem, AMG-inspired front and rear bumper with dual exhaust tip finishers, side skirts etc. The cabin might also get the same treatment with Edition E badging and an AMG-inspired steering wheel.
For the Edition E, Mercedes Benz might keep the powertrain same as the current E-Class. The E200 sold in India comes powered by a 2.0-litre petrol mill producing 184bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. The oil-burner E250 CDI is powered by a 2.1-litre diesel unit churning out 204bhp of power and 500Nm of torque. Both engines are paired to a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
The new E-Class Edition E will be manufactured at the automaker’s plant in Chakan near Pune. More details along with the price will be revealed tomorrow at the launch. The Mercedes Benz E-Class Edition E executive sedan will be the second launch for Mercedes this year, out of their 12 new car launch strategy for 2016.
