Mercedes-Benz recently launched a special edition of its E-Class sedan to celebrate 20 years of the car being produced in India. It has called this special model the ‘Edition E’ and it is available across all three engine options.
Externally, in that typical German understated way, the Edition E gets new alloy wheels and special badging on the side of the vehicle. A nice addition to this line up is the illuminated Avantgarde logo which is a standard feature.
In the cabin the E200 and E250 CDI get sporty pedals, Garmin navigation system while the E350 CDI also gets 360 degree camera, Harman Kardon music system and a rear seat entertainment package.
Mechanically all three cars are standard as stock counterparts. The E200 is offered with a 2.0-litre petrol mill while the E250 CDI is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel mill. The top-spec E350 CDI is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 engine.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class was the first luxury car to be locally assembled in India with the first model rolling out of the plant in 1995. Since then there have been five generations of the sedan (including the current model).
Mercedes-Benz had rather fine examples of all five generations on display during the launch event and it was amazing to see the way the model had evolved over the years both in terms of design and technology.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Edition E has been priced at Rs 48.60 lakh for E200, Rs 50.76 lakh for the E200 CDI and Rs 60.61 lakh for the E350 CDI (all prices ex-showroom Pune).
