Taking things to a whole new level, German automaker Mercedes-Benz has launched the new long wheel base E-Class in the country. Available in petrol as well as diesel engine options, the vehicle comes with loads of features that makes it one the best option in the country. The E-Class is an important product for the company especially since it alone contributes by 34 per cent of overall sales.
Exterior: The key exterior highlight is its longer wheelbase, the car length has been extended by 185mm which now brings it to 5,063mm. The extra wheelbase of 205mm brings it to 3,079mm. This also means that rear seat occupants get to enjoy an extra 134mm of legroom space. The newly launched model gets LED headlamps and tail lamps, 17-inch light alloy wheels and a panoramic sunroof. The rear section get two fixed tailpipe trim elements that is integrated into the bumper and illumination that is specific to the E-Class.
Interior: Along with premium upholstery, you also have 64 colours and five dimming levels suit the desired lighting mood. For the first time, the vehicle gets touch sensitive controls on the steering wheel and a 37 degree recliner rear seats with memory function. With more focus on rear passengers, the vehicle gets electric sunblind for rear windows. The new E-Class gets a 12.3-inch infotainment system which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. For that perfect audio quality, the vehicle comes with Burmester surround sound system with 13 high-performance speakers. Interestingly, when the remote lock runs out of battery it can still be used to activate the engine when placed inside a particular slot.
Engine: The new E-Class is available in two variants - the E200 and the E350d. The E200 is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo unit that generates 182bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. The E350d on the other hand is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 engine that generates 255bhp of power and 620Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to a 9G-tronic gearbox. The top speed for the petrol variant is limited to 240kmph while the top speed for the diesel version is limited to 250kmph.
Safety: Mercedes-Benz cars have been known to offer the most modern equipment that can save human lives. In terms of safety, it comes with ESP, PRE-SAFE, adaptive brake lights, adaptive brake lights, Seven airbags including - dual front airbags, front side airbags, curtain airbags and knee bag for driver. For the first time, the vehicle also gets parking pilot with active parking assist PARKTRONIC and visual aids (360° camera for E 350 d).
The E-Class has always been a revenue generating product for Mercedes-Benz in India. Moving forward, with the launch of a new model, the German automaker can expect to see a further growth in overall sales. Decent styling and more features with comfort makes it an ideal choice in its segment.
