The estate version of the Mercedes-Benz CLA has been spied testing. Instantly recognizable as a CLA-Class, the car featured a sporty body kit which indicates that the car is an AMG-tinkered version and is most likely to be called CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake, just like the estate version of the CLS-Class.
The CLA-Class rides on the same platform as the A-Class, which is also shared with a bunch of other Mercedes-Benz cars. The Shooting Brake mule spotted sported an AMG body kit with aggressive bumpers, aerodynamic side skirts, a four-tail pipe exhaust, multi-spoke wheels and massive air dams in the front and rear. The roofline of the CLA sedan has been extended from the C-pillar into a sharply raked hatch, to accommodate the humongous boot.
The engine is expected to be retained for the estate- a four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-litre mill producing 360bhp and 450Nm of torque. The engine sends power to all four wheels through the seven-speed dual clutch gearbox with the top speed capped at 248kmph.
While Mercedes-Benz has managed to extend the roofline to blend in the estate-esque boot, the car doesn’t look as appealing as the CLA sedan. We expect the uncamouflaged version of the car to look better and if not, we hope the practicality of the car will overshadow the shortcomings in the looks. The CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake will be for a customer who wants the practicality of an estate along with performance of AMG.
