Following the launch of the A-Class and B-Class Edition One models, Mercedes-Benz has announced that the new CLA 45 AMG will go on sale in India on July 22. Like the regular CLA sedan, the CLA45 AMG is based on the Modular Front Architecture (MFA) platform which is also used in the A-Class and B-Class hatchbacks.
The CLA 45 AMG is a pumped up version of the CLA saloon and is powered by the world’s most powerful stock four-pot engine. The 2.0-litre direct injection turbocharged motor churns out a massive 360bhp and 450Nm of torque. With this kind of power figure, the CLA 45 AMG can hit 100kmph from a standstill in just 4.3 seconds going on to an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. The engine is mated to a SpeedShift DCT seven-speed gearbox and powers all four wheels through a 4MATIC system.
Owing to its size, price and performance figures, the CLA45 AMG will be pitted against a host of two-door sports cars like the BMW Z4, Porsche Boxster and the Audi TT. The CLA45 AMG is the most powerful car among the lot and will be priced lower than the BMW and the Porsche. Also the four seats and the boot also make it the most practical option among the others.
Being a CBU, the CLA45 AMG will attract sizable taxes and is expected to be priced around Rs 60 lakh to 65 lakh. Despite this high price tag, the CLA 45 AMG will still be the most affordable AMG car in India, undercutting the next cheapest AMG, the C63, by around Rs 30 lakh.
