The performance car with the most powerful four-cylinder engine is here in India! Mercedes-Benz has launched the CLA 45 AMG in the Indian market for a price of Rs 68.50 lakh. The compact super saloon is the AMG version of the CLA sedan and the most affordable AMG car in India. The company has also announced that the regular CLA model will come to India in the next six months.
Though based on the outgoing CLA sedan, the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG is underpinned by the same Modular Front Architecture (MFA) platform which is seen in the A- and B-Class hatchbacks. The vehicle boasts of an AMG body kit that includes a sporty front bumper, side skirts and a rear bumper integrated with a diffuser with quad chrome-tipped exhausts.
The car gets all the standard equipment from the CLA but sticking to the AMG legacy, the automaker has equipped the car with AMG specific seats and instruments. The AMG badging and red seat belts differentiate this car from the standard CLA.
The CLA 45 AMG is powered by a 2.0-litre direct injection turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which is the world's most powerful four-cylinder engine, that churns out 355bhp and 450Nm of torque. Generally other Mercedes-Benz cars are equipped with the 7G-Tronic gearbox but this motor is mated to the DCT 7-speed sport transmission, similar to the one used in the SLS AMG. The power is sent to all the wheels through a 4MATIC system which propels the car from 0-100kmph in 4.3 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 250kmph.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG competes with other two-door sports cars like the BMW Z4, Porsche Boxster and the Audi TT. Mercedes-Benz is on a roll, introducing AMG cars in the Indian market. The CLA 45 AMG now joins the C 63 AMG, the G 63 AMG, the GL 63 AMG, the ML 63 AMG, the E 63 AMG and the SLK 55 AMG from the carmaker's AMG portfolio in India.
