Earlier this year, rumours were afloat that Mercedes-Benz had plans to introduce a five-door hatchback version of the 2015 C-Class, a direct rival to the BMW 3-Series GT. Mercedes-Benz, however, has not confirmed the news as yet. But this hasn’t stopped, Theophilus Chin, an enthusiast from Singapore, from letting his imagination loose. The ‘Automotive Manipulator’ has gone ahead and penned a rendering of what the C-Class hatchback, in case it does materialise, should look like. And boy does it look good!
Currently, Mercedes-Benz has two hatchbacks in its line-up, the A-Class and the B-Class, both of which are available in India. According to the artist, the C-Class hatch could be around 4,500 mm long compared to the 4,292 mm of the A-Class, which seems to be quite large for a compact hatchback. The rendering has a rear hatch on the lines of a compact hatchback, which coupled with the sedan’s aggressive front-end makes it a handsome car.
The 2015 C-Class sedan, internally called W205, is set to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January next year. Based on the new MRA, the C-Class is set to be released in a number of guises including a coupe, an estate, a China-only extended wheelbase model as well as a C63 AMG edition. Also expected is a five-door SportCoupe to rival the Audi A5 Sportback.
