It looks like the new Mercedes C-Class range is about to get bigger with the addition of a new coupe model. The carmaker has been caught running prototypes of the C-Class coupe which is scheduled to go on sale later this year, as a 2016 model.
Looking at the spy pictures, it is easy to spot the wider track of the prototype compared to the C-Class sedan. The vehicle also rides noticeably lower than the latter. Other differentiating bits include the rear view mirrors that are mounted to the doors, whereas on the sedan these are mounted at the base of the A-pillar.
As for the drivetrain, engine options are expected to match those of the C-Class sedan. Also expected is the 7-speed automatic gearbox and rear-wheel drive configuration as standard.
This new model will be called the C-Class Coupe. When launched, it will be sold alongside the C-Class sedan and a forthcoming convertible model. Mercedes will also include an AMG model of the C-Class Coupe, to mainly compete with the BMW M4.
